“God Is Worthy” for a Church Theme

January Pastor’s Chat

On December 10th, I posted on the church web page that it was official: our church theme for 2009 would be God Is Worthy! Since that time we have had nearly 100 page views by people searching the web for church themes.

I believe that our 2009 theme— God Is Worthy, will be good for us as a church family for the following reasons:

1.  The statement “God is worthy” directs our focus: A God focused ministry by all of us at FBC will have eternal ramification! Where do we begin?  Certainly, we must begin by praying for God’s help to be more focused upon Him.  Next, we can strive to think more about God as we read our Bibles. We could also pick up a Scriptural based book that would challenge us to think about who God is, such as J. I. Packer’s book entitled, “Knowing God” or A. W. Tozer’s book entitled, “The Pursuit of God.”

2. The statement “God is worthy” challenges our motives: Why do we come to services at FBC?  No doubt we each have various reasons for coming but what should be our primary reason for coming to church when the doors are open?   There is no better reason then the fact that God is worthy of our full attention in praise and worship (Revelation 4:11).

3.  The statement “God is worthy” motivates our actions: A growing and deepening realization that God is worthy will change the way we act and live. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
