March Pastor’s Chat
Last month we focused on the fact that our God, Jesus Christ, is worthy of power (Revelation 5:12). This month we will consider the truth that our Lord is also worthy to receive riches.
For God to receive riches from us, we have to be willing to open our hand and give them back to Him. Every material thing we posses is a gift from God and should be used for His honor and glory. This attitude will enable us to be ready for action in using our material riches to serve the Lord. It could be as simple as giving a glass of water to a thirsty person. Jesus made this clear when he said, “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink . . . Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:35-40). It might be as complete as selling all that you have to follow Christ at His command: “Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me” (Mark 10:21). Jesus knows each of our hearts and what is needed in our lives to bring glory to His name through our riches. Jesus further admonished us to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:20-21).
Where is your heart and treasure? Certainly, God has entrusted many riches to you. Will you let Him direct you into new ways of honoring and serving Him with them so you can lay up treasure in heaven? God is worthy!
With love and prayers, Pastor Mark
