Psalm 20 – National Prayer

Psalm 20

Introduction:  A Psalm of David that has been compared to a present day “National Anthem.”  It was probably sung before the nation went to war to help them all focus on the LORD.

(See 2 Samuel 12:26-31).

I.  The Nation Fervently Prays to the LORD for the King (vs.1-5).

Eight petitions:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

II.  The King Responds with Confidence in the LORD (vs.6-8).

His response has prophetic implication to an ultimate fulfillment in Christ “his anointed”

III.  Concluding Prayer (vs.9)

Conclusion:

* We are blessed by the historical context -Prayer for David

* We marvel at the prophetic implication – Prayer for the Messiah

* We can learn to pray by this example – Prayer for God’s servants today.
