A Shepherd’s Musings: Wk-18 – God is True – part 2

We have already noted that God is righteous, just, and faithful.  Another way the Bible reveals these character qualities about God is the demonstration that God is true to His word.  A completely righteous, just, and faithful person will always be true to His word. Such a person is the Lord.  He can be trusted completely because He is true.

In a beautiful psalm of praise to God, recorded in 2 Samuel 22:31, David says this about his God, “This God–his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”  David learned this not only by revelation, but also by experience. He had resisted the temptation to take vengeance into his own hands and trusted God for deliverance from the attacks of Saul and others.  God was his refuge; God had kept His word to him.

Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”  My friend, do you believe this?  Well, your thoughts and your actions will show if you do!  A person who takes refuge in God will be at peace and not worry about the future.  He or she will live out Philippians 4:4-7 on a daily basis:

Rejoice in the Lord always;
again I will say, Rejoice.
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.
The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything by prayer
and supplication
with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

God’s desire is to bring every person into this kind of relationship with Him. In sovereign wisdom He designs trials so that we will learn to call trustfully on Him and experience His peace.  There is a fascinating reference to a future time, during the great tribulation, when those who shall “conquered the beast and its image” will worship:

And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!  Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”  Revelation 15:3-5

Will you join me in worshiping God this week because He is true?  Selah—meditate on these things!

With Prayer, Mark
